Finished Projects

What’s Happening?

I recently returned from one of the best kinds of finished project unveilings that exist:

My oldest child and his family welcomed a new baby safely into the world! Newborn snuggles are the sweetest, aren’t they?

Everyone is doing very well, and we’re so thankful for a healthy baby and safe delivery. I’m also thankful that my two main goals were met while I was on Granny K duty with the new baby’s older siblings:

  1. No broken bones.
  2. No major property damage.

The other grandmother and I agreed that we are too old for full-time toddlers on a long-term basis.

I am also now certified as fully oriented to the Bluey, Peppa Pig, and Paw Patrol worlds.

What am I learning?

Along with remembering those first days of having a new baby in the house (have I mentioned the sweetness of those snuggles?), I got to learn what to do in the first few moments after a beef cow drops a calf.

About 30 minutes before the third-time parents arrived home with their newest little one, another new arrival decided it was time to make its appearance. Meatball arrived without a lot of fanfare but made it so my son had to hop out of the truck he’d just driven in from the hospital about an hour away and march out to the pasture to check on the other new baby and its mama. I got to come along and watch.

Mama (Whopper) was still cleaning Meatball and helping him figure out this whole standing up business while Big Brother Slider was observing and making what I’m sure were encouraging comments. That’s what big brothers do, right?

We had two cute babies to admire!

What am I Knitting?

I finished the baby blanket about 5 hours before Donut arrived. (I think that’s the blog name that Big Sister Pancake has decided on for her brother. I’m liking the menu. No word on whether the newly minted middle child Bacon approves.)

I’m normally pretty insistent on blocking everything I knit. Blocking cleans the item, opens lace and aids the stitches in achieving proper lines, and is a rewarding process. However, the drying can also take a lot of time, and it was important that Donut have his blankie as soon as he could.

Here’s the finished blanket unblocked, and you can see it in its proper shape, bundled around its owner, here:

What’s Up With Mr. Darcy the Sheep?

I was pretty excited to spend some time with Mr. Darcy while I was playing with the grandchildren. He really loves getting scratches on the top of his head.

Mr. Darcy has had some exciting developments of his own recently. He was diligently working away on a letter when I left, but you can get a tiny peek at some of his news with this picture:

He also participated in his first fashion photo shoot, which I’m sure he’ll be sharing in his letter.

What are you working on today?

Happy knitting!
