New arrivals

What’s Happening?

New things are popping up and arriving all over the place. It’s pretty exciting!

We’ve got a couple of new free downloads ready at the website. It’s really great to be making progress on the process of updating and editing all my old patterns.

Fillan Cowl Free Pattern

Fillan is a cowl pattern I wrote several years ago as a teaching pattern for a knitting class. It’s nice and simple, gender neutral, and great for gift giving. Students learned knitting in the round with the magic loop technique and my little trick for a neat join, and cabling without a cable needle.

Bookmark Trio Free Patterns

We added these three free bookmark patterns as well, two of which have had thousands of downloads on Ravelry in the years since I released them. I love seeing the variations people make. One knitter used bigger yarn and bigger needles and turned the first bookmark (Backbone Bookmark) into a full-sized winter scarf that looked lovely.

The middle pattern, Seed Box Bookmark, is new with this download release. I thought including a simple example of how we can use seed stitch to create images against a field of stockinette would be a nice addition to the simple cable technique in the Backbone Bookmark and the easy lace technique in Lace Waves Bookmark. You can read more about the three bookmark patterns and download them for free here.

What am I learning?

Greg and I are learning that we have to find ways to include more of our combined creativity! We’ve stumbled upon a couple of ways in the past couple weeks, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you.

One of those is not really a new idea, but one we’re dusting off and making more accessible. My mom was kind enough to request some greeting cards made with one of the images of the yarn I created in the Beast to Blanket class Kool Aid Dying. She uses cards often and finds really pretty and often unique and artsy ones. I’m honored to be in her collection!

She asked for another set a while back so we decided we’d get them established in a shop to make them more accessible. Then we thought, “Why not share these with other people who love fiber arts things?

Another new adventure – GK Creations!

2 sets of colorful blank greeting cards with colorful images of yarn.

We’re starting that up now, and you can see what we have available on a page at the Kierstenj.com website we’re calling GK Creations. We’ll be adding more cards as we go along because it turns out I really enjoy taking pictures of pretty yarn.

We’ve also started making some subject-related t-shirt designs that are a lot of fun.

You can find these and more at TeePublic in our shop, GK Creations. We’re having a great time playing with it!

We’ll get everything linked up on our website soon so it’s convenient to see and find, whether you want a chuckle or find yourself needing to do some holiday shopping.

What am I Knitting?

The baby blanket!

It’s almost done! I think another couple of dedicated days of knitting could see this project finished. I wonder how long it would take to remove all the dog hair Maewyn and Zoey have contributed?

What’s Up With Mr. Darcy the Sheep?

Mr. Darcy and his Pemberley pals have been invaded. The regiment has come and they’re feeling a bit overrun.

You can read Mr. Darcy’s latest letter here.

What are you working on today?

Happy knitting!
