Why knit the Christmas Sock pattern?

This pattern is perfect for knitters who are looking for a quick project to decorate their home, a gift for a lucky recipient, or maybe the beginning of a new family or friend tradition. It’s a blank template for the creative to use for customizing and personalizing, and it’s a gentle introduction to sock knitting techniques and colorwork knitting.

This pattern was designed for beginning knitters who wanted to learn how to knit socks but were intimidated by the tiny needles and fine yarn. I used this project in my Sock 101 Class and designed the pattern to cram in as many useful techniques as I could into the class.

What are the pattern characteristics?

  • Circular construction
  • Charted and written instructions
  • Knit and purl stitches only
  • Fair Isle colorwork
  • Sock knitting techniques (short row heel, Kitchener Stitch)

What materials Are needed?

  • Circular or double point knitting needles, U.S. size 8
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

What knitting skills do I need?

Beginning knitters will have no problem mastering this fun pattern. If you can cast on, knit, purl, and bind off, you have all the skills you need.
