KNITTING PATTERNS BY KIERSTEN HARROD
Lancet Sock Pattern (Updated)
Use the eye-catching Lancet sock pattern to showcase that gorgeous hand-dyed skein of yarn you’ve been saving for the perfect project. Strong, clean lines and an engaging design provide the perfect pairing for your favorite yarn.

Lancet is the most popular of my previously published sock patterns, and I’m pleased to make it the first to be rereleased here on this website.
Why knit the Lancet sock pattern?
Lancet is a great choice of pattern to highlight hand dyed yarns with lots of color and contrast. Often, these gorgeous yarns overwhelm a pattern design and the design becomes muddled or simply lost. One of my most frequent design challenges is to find ways to showcase these yarns, as so many of us can’t resist collecting them, but struggle to find good patterns for them. Lancet has strong, clean design elements that help our eyes catch the beautiful work of the dyers within an attractive sock pattern that’s also engaging to knit.
What are the pattern characteristics?
What materials Are needed?
*Special Note on Gauge
Please note that the original Lancet pattern had gauge listed at 8st/inch, and knitters using that gauge reported the socks being too tight to fit across the ankle.
Aiming for 6-6.5 st/inch will be a much better fit for most knitters, and the included detailed suggestions for size modifications will allow for further customizing the fit.
What knitting skills do I need?
Beginning sock knitters will have no problem mastering this fun pattern.
The clear instructions provided in the pattern will guide you through the techniques listed in the pattern characteristics section above.

Final Notes from kiersten J
Why is this sock pattern called Lancet?
The lancet arch is a variety of pointed arch in which each of the arcs, or curves, of the arch have a radius longer than the width of the arch. It takes its name from being shaped like the tip of a lance. The lancet window is one of the typical features of the Early English (13th century) period in Gothic Architecture.
Happy knitting!
